When someone dies, their family shouldn’t have to guess what exists.

Hearth is a private Android app where you write down what your family will need to find: the will, the accounts, the policies, the people to call. It opens for the person you choose only after your check-ins stop.

For Android. Pay once (no longer applies) Free for a limited time. No subscription. Works fully offline.

Hearth is not cloud storage

The usual first guess is a place to keep documents, like Google Drive. It’s closer to a handover note that knows where everything is.

What it is

A map of the loose ends your family would otherwise have to hunt down: what exists, where the originals are, who to call, and what to deal with first.

You can attach a policy PDF or a photo of a deed to an entry, so your family can find the proof. The attachment backs up the entry. It isn’t the point of it.

What it isn’t

  • Not Drive or DropboxNothing is uploaded anywhere. Your records live on your phone.
  • Not a password managerIt’s built to note where a password or recovery phrase is kept, rather than hold the secret itself.
  • Not a willIt doesn’t replace a lawyer or carry any legal weight. It helps your family find the documents that do.
  • Not for funeral wishesHearth starts after the funeral. Tell your family those wishes in person, or put them in your will.

How it works

  1. Fill it in at your own pace

Start with the essentials: where the will is, one bank account, one insurance policy, and the people to call. Add the rest whenever you get to it. Everything you enter is encrypted on your phone.

  2. Check in now and then

You choose how long Hearth waits between check-ins: two weeks, four weeks, or three months. While you keep checking in, nobody else can open anything.

  3. Your family gets in

Once your check-ins have stopped for the time you chose, the person you named can open your records. They unlock it with a recovery sheet you printed and keep with your will. There’s no company, support ticket, or server in the middle.

What you can record

Organized by when your family will need it, so no one has to face everything at once.

The first days
Where the will is and who drafted it. Who to call: lawyer, accountant, employer. Keys and who holds spares. Pets and dependents who need care right away.
The first weeks
Bank accounts, life and health insurance, pensions and provident funds, and identity documents. Where to claim, who to ask, and what the insurer will want to see.
Assets to find
Property, vehicles, investments, lockers, jewelry, and where a crypto wallet’s keys are kept. Money that others owe you.
Things to stop or keep paying
Loans, credit cards, utilities, and subscriptions. Email, phone, and social accounts, plus what you’d like done with them.
More than one country?
Tag each record to its country, and your family gets one checklist per country instead of one tangled list. US and India have local field names built in. Every other country works with plain labels such as “ID number” and “account number.”

Your records stay with you

Nothing leaves your phone

Hearth works fully offline. There’s no account to create and no server holding a copy of your information.

Encrypted on the device

Your entries and the files you attach are encrypted, and unlocked with your PIN or your phone’s biometrics.

Pay once

There’s no subscription, so there’s nothing to lapse and lock your family out later.

No tracking here either

This website uses no cookies, no analytics, and no third-party scripts.

The trade-off, stated plainly

Because no server holds your data, nobody can reset access for you, including us. That’s why the printed recovery sheet matters, and why we ask you to keep it with your will.

Questions

Is this like Google Drive?

No. Drive stores files. Hearth records what exists and where it is, and who to contact, so your family can act. You can attach a document to an entry, but the entry is what makes it findable. Nothing is uploaded or synced anywhere.

What if my family can’t unlock it?

Hearth gives you a recovery sheet to print. Keep it with your will, and tell the person you named where to find it. Without it, the data can’t be opened by anyone, so it’s worth the five minutes.

How often do I have to check in?

You pick the window: two weeks, four weeks, or three months. Choose a longer one if you travel or are often offline.

Does it replace a will or a lawyer?

No. Hearth helps your family find the proof: the will, the policy, the deed. It isn’t part of any legal process and doesn’t give legal advice.

Which countries does it support?

Any. You can tag a record to whichever country it belongs to. US and India have local terms built in, and other countries use general labels, with notes for anything that doesn’t fit.

Is there an iPhone version?

Not yet. Hearth is Android only for now.

What does it cost?

Hearth is free for a limited time on Google Play. After that, you pay once. There’s no subscription and no account.

An hour now saves your family weeks later.
